OWLS runs a befriending service to support older people in the community who may be socially isolated or find it difficult to take part in a group activity.
Befriending is a great way to stay connected. A befriending volunteer visits someone in their own home for conversation for an hour once a week.
All our befriending volunteers have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously known as a CRB check), and are trained in various key topics, including: confidentiality; emergency contact procedures; safeguarding adults; personal boundaries and reliability.
Please contact OWLS Activities Coordinator by email or by phone (0113 369 7077) if:
- you would like to find out about having visits from a befriender
- you are interested in befriending on behalf of a relative or friend
- you would like to volunteer to be a befriender
