Bramley Elderly Action’s vision is a world where people aged 60 and above have the best possible quality of life and involvement within their communities. We run a wide range of support and activities in Bramley, Swinnow and parts of Stanningley, West Leeds. BEA also manages OWLS, the Leeds Neighbourhood Network Scheme for older people living in Burley, Hyde Park, Little Woodhouse, Headingley and parts of Kirkstall.

About You

This is an exciting time to join our charity, as we have just launched an ambitious new strategy to double our membership in the next 3 years. In order to achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking to recruit new Trustees to our Board. Following a Board Skills Audit, we are looking for new Board members to join our existing friendly team with one or more of the following experience:

  • Local to the areas we work in

  • Aged 60+

  • HR expertise

  • Digital inclusion expertise

Trustees are the final decision-makers, with oversight of all the charity’s decisions, but the board’s main job is to set direction and have oversight of the charity’s work. The Board work together to provide strategy, scrutiny, and support.

We are looking for volunteers with one or more of the skills and experience mentioned above and we welcome people from all ages, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and background. It is not essential to have previous Trustee experience, we will provide a supportive induction.

Time Commitment

Trustees meet 6 times per year, online or at Bramley Community Centre or OWLS. Meeting times are agreed between the group, usually weekday mornings or early evenings. Trustees also have the opportunity to take part in committees and are encouraged to attend events and meet our members. The estimated time commitment is around 25 hours per year.

How we will support you

  • Providing a supportive trustee induction

  • Reasonable out of pocket expenses reimbursed

  • Providing you with an existing trustee “buddy” to help you settle in

  • Access to a range of optional training
